The Gowans-Knight Company is proud of it's unique capabilities to supply and assist in the design of fire and rescue apparatus. Over the years, GK has delivered many pieces of apparatus, built by a variety of companies. Some of the companies are no longer in business, while others have sustained. Through all the years of change, Gowans-Knight has continued to serve the needs of the fire/rescue services! The photos shown below, represent a small sampling of the fire/rescue apparatus, delivered by the Gowans-Knight Company, Watertown, Connecticut. We will add to this historic album, as we locate more photos from the past! Please note that the photos are in no particular order.We will add photos as they become available.



NORTHFIELD VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT

Northfield CT
Northfield Fire Co. Inc. Engine 2 is housed in the Northfield section of the Town of Litchfield was origionaly a 1981 Duplex/Oren/Grumman Pumper that had a traditional steel pumper style body with a 2000 gal steel tank. The apparatus has retained its origanal Detroit Diesel 450hp 8v92 motor and Allison Transmission, & Waterous CSUYBX 1250gpm Pump which was one of the first trucks in Litchfield county. The origional fire body was removed and the chassis frame was lengthed 4' for its new Extruded Aluminum Rescue Style Pumper Body which is a 102' wide for the added compartmentation depth and room of a 96' wide body. The pump was outfitted with a new 4" Elkhart electric controled Tank to pump valve for greater flow. The pump house also recieve the relocation of it's orignal 4" rear discharge to the right pump panel area also a second 4" discharge was added to the left pump area which gives the abilty to pump or dump out of either side. Also added to this area was an 18" TFT Extenda Gun for the prepiped Stang deck gun. A new UPF polytankII 2500gal tank was added with a Newton dump valve on the rear. The body also features an enclosed portable tank compartment and Zico drop down brackets for the ladders and suction hose. The cab is a Duplex D300 model that under went complete rust repair. The overall lenght of the apparatus was changed by 10" of added lenght. This apparatus origionally replaced the first truck ever buit by GowansKnight Co. back in 1963. Due to the refurbishments made to this apparatus it is now due to be replaced in the year 2015
